Sniff sniff sniff

I spent the day on Sunday at my aunt's house who is moving to an apartment. As a result I was able to acquire several items. Of course when I got them into the house immediately Smokey and Arwen began to sniff every inch of the stuff. I find it so interesting that they have to exam this new thing that is in their space.

Da Bird again.

I found the Da Bird in the hallway again this morning. Smokey had gotten in to the closet somehow to get it. As it is when ever I open this particular closet Smokey comes running from wherever she happens to be.

Smokey's Adoption Day

One year ago today I adopted Smokey as a nine week old kitten from the MSPCA. I sent a donation to the adoption center where I got her today. The donation should help in the adoption of other animals that would otherwise not be able to have a chance. Take look at the then and now pictures. One picture shows Smokey shortly after I brought her home on the right side of the picture you can see Arwen who seems to be saying: "Who is this in my space?" The other was taken today on her adoption day.

What Da Bird

This morning I woke up and walked to the living room and stumbled over something. When I finally opened my eyes I saw that it was the wand for the Da Bird cat toy. I believe that the door to the closet where I keep it was not shut tight last night. Smokey knows that it is stored there an worked the door open to get her paws on it. All I know is that it seemed to be pretty chewed up.

Both of my cats love the this particular toy but Smokey literally does back flips for it.

Just hanging out

Nothing exciting happening so here is a picture of Arwen hanging out. Smokey just jumped in my lap as I update this post. You should hear her purring.

Who did it?

Who did it?

See what I woke up to this morning. That's right a pile of cat puke on the carpet in my bedroom. I don't know who the culprit is. It will be just one of life's mysteries I know that both Arwen and Smokey frequent the location that I found the mess.
Like they say the grass is always greener on the other side of the fence. At least I did not step in it when I got out of bed this morning!

Cat 3 Mouse 0

Smokey the Hunter

Well I guess the weather must be getting colder. The mice seem to be trying to move inside for the winter.
I was gone for the day on Sunday and came home to find yet another mouse that has met its maker. This time it was by the couch in the living room. That makes three mice in a in less than three weeks!
Again I am assuming that the Hunter is Smokey.... The saga continues....

:( Remember :(

Let us remember those who we lost today in 2001.

Cat 2 Mouse 0

This morning when I got up I thought I saw, in the dim light, a pile of cat puke by the foot of my bed. When I discovered that is was another mouse that had met her maker. I am only to assume that Smokey was the hunter based on what I saw a couple week ago. This all occurred while I was sound asleep. I'm sure that there was a lot of activity while the hunt was on. I'm Surprised that I slept through it. See here to read the story.

Cat 1 Mouse 0

Recently, as I was getting ready to go to work, I heard strange sounds coming from the other side of the house. As I got closer I began to hear a “chirping sound” I thought that Smokey and Arwen found a cricket, which they were playing with. As I got closer I realized that it didn’t sound like a cricket at all. When I got to the bathroom I found Smokey with a mouse in her mouth with only the tail sticking out. Judging from the noise it was making the mouse was not happy about it at all. When I got there, Smokey dropped the mouse, which then tried to run away. Smokey was hot on the trail and then reached out and took a swipe at the mouse. Lets just say the mouse was not very active after that. Smokey was so proud of herself at what she accomplished. You should have heard how loud she was purring so loud she sounded like a motorboat. She just laying down by her ”trophy”. This was the first mouse she got (that I know of) in the 11 months that I had her.
My other cat Arwen was simply amused at the whole event but had little interest in participating in the battle. She was just content in lying in the hall watching the whole event as it occurred around her.Smokey is a “hunter” while Arwen is….well Arwen!

Katrina Pet Story

I finally heard from a friend of mine who lives in New Orleans. She and her son evacuated to acquaintances in Mississippi to ride out the storm they are now in Connecticut and still do not know the status of their house in New Orleans. They don’t believe that the house was in one of the many flooded areas. They are fine a bit shaken (they are natives of Connecticut) but the storm was but had this to say about getting their pets out of harms way:
“…I had rented a van on Sunday morning so we could get all the pets out. I still have my big Lab and I had just adopted 3 kittens. Rich has his dog, two cats, a parrot and a ferret so we were full. Crates bungee corded everywhere. Now the kittens are sick but overall, the pets did pretty well….”

Two plus ten equals twelve

Last Monday I brought Arwen into the vet for her one year check up and rabies booster shot. Where she weighed in at 12 pounds. That is I have 10 more pounds of cat than the 8 week old two pounds of high energy fluff that I picked up July 2004. The vet said that she is not overweight but to keep an eye on her weight because he doesn't want her to get much heavier than she is already.

Just as predicted

Just like I predicted the blog has come to life. The first thing that I did today was add a link at the top of the page for PETFINDER. You can use this to search for a pet any kind a pet. I also added a link for featured cats that are available for adoption from here. The featured cat will change each time that the page loads or when you refress it. By using the search feature at the top of the page you can find pets that are available in "your" area!

Standby: This blog will come to life again

After a long time of no activity this blog will soon come back to life. Have no fears Arwen and Smokey are in great health and have been great companions. They have been a great source of fun for me.
