Catnip Gift

Smokey and Arwen received homemade catnip toys from a coworker and catsitter for Christmas. When I came in the house and was taking stuff out of the bags that the toys were held in they were sniffing them even more than usual began rolling over the stuff and tearing at a envelop that was in the bag. I'm sure that they could smell the catnip on the items. Smokey jumped onto the counter to get at the toys. They had fun playing with the toys when I finally gave it to them. There is no hiding things from a kitten....

It's Shocking

I have noticed in the last few days with the colder weather we have been having that often when I pet the Smokey and Arwen or they come up to me that we get a static shock at times I could even hear the "pop". This causes them to jump away in surprise. They don't seem to mind it too much though because they are right back to get their petting. More joys of the winter season.

Holiday season

Like so many other people at this time of the year I find myself busy with shopping and get togethers. The kittens are still getting plenty of attention when I am there but they are spending more time than usual on their own.
I went to a party for a couple of hours last night and I found that when I got home the girls were much more hyper than usual and took them a while to settle down even after I went to bed. They woke up earlier than usual this morning still had extra energy. Arwen also was more demanding of my attention than usual. I spent time petting and playing with her but she forced her head into my hand so that I could continue to pet her.
I will have to be gone for a few hours today to help my parents with some holiday baking. At least I'm not working today so that I can spend time at home once the the baking is done.

Need a massage or help making bread?

Do you need a massage or need help kneading bread? If you do I can have Arwen help out. Yep that right I have a kneader. I would say is stared by the second day that I got her when she is ready to relax she climbs up on my chest and proceeds to massage around my Adams apple. She gets a glazed look in her eyes and may or may not purr. She also occasionally will drool a bit. This usually occurs during the evening or early morning when we are both relaxing. From what I have read this is what kittens do when getting milk from their mother and some never grow out of the activity. I take it as a sign she has accepted me as a substitute. I "babysat" Arwens sister for two weeks and she never showed signs of this behavior. My other kitten Smokey (from a different source) never shows signs of the behavior.

I only wish that I could train her to do my back and neck but no such luck. She will occasionally "massage my abs but that is it. I have tried to roll over and have her on my back but she just sits there. As soon as I roll over again she is right back to working the Adams apple. Well, I guess beggars can't be choosers.

A penny for your thoughts

After work today after I got home from work I heard noise in the kitchen Arwen was in the hallway looking into the kitchen. Smokey was happily playing with a penny that she found somewhere. I took it away so she would not swallow it.

I find it so amazing how the kittens seem to find things that are not even in plain view. I guess they have all the time to explore every nook and cranny of the house.

Bathtime or playtime?.

Playtime definitely! From the beginning it seems that the favorite spot for Arwen and Smokey to play is the bathtub. They hide between the shower curtain and liner lying, waiting in ambush at the ready to pounce on the other kitten as she passes by. There doesn't seem to be a dominate one both Arwen and Smokey take turns being 'queen of the tub." They never seem to get tired of this game. They seem to play several time a day and in total have spent hours playing in there.
